Hololens Designs

3D wearable technologies allow for immersive experiences but bring new design requirements. We cannot rely on 2D screens and must build UI, buttons, and touchables into the 3D environment or find alternative methods of user interaction. We must take into account where the user is in relation to menu screens and buttons and what might be in their way visually or physically. Anchoring, location guidance, and voice commands and responses are much more important in designing for 3D wearables vs mobile/tablet.

Howden Blower Experience

This experience, which was featured at PTC’s Customer Experience Center walks the user through a gear replacement scenario and showcases allows the user to view different internal parts and their related data.

Hololens Experiences

The following AR experiences were all designed for Hololens:

  • An IOT connected smart torque gun which guides the user to the next bolt and provides a work tracking update on the bolts remaining

  • A missile familiarization experience

  • An AR operating manual for a grinding machine

Helicopter Conference Demo

This experience walks a user through a pre maintenance checklist, allowing a user to experience working on an Apache Helicopter without needing to have one available to them. The Hololens allows for an immersive feel, improving learning adoption.
